Rock River Foundation and the Mississippi Writers Guild for the DELTA YOUTH Writing Contest.
Washington, DeSoto, Humphreys, Carroll, Issaquena, Panola, Quitman, Bolivar, Coahoma, Leflore, Sunflower, Sharkey, Tunica, Tallahatchie, Holmes, Yazoo and Warren Counties) and the winner will be invited to read the winning piece on March 27th, 2010 at Ground Zero in Clarksdale, Mississippi, at an event celebrating the release of the short story collection, Delta Blues, edited by Carolyn Haines and published by Tyrus Books. The Mississippi Writers Guild will award free registration to the Guild’s 2010 conference for the top winners and his/her adult guardians/chaperones. Additionally, the Guild is awarding a $1,000 scholarship to one Delta senior entrant seeking a degree in the field of literary arts. Delta Blues (Tyrus Books, May 2010) features short stories from John Grisham, Charlaine Harris, James Lee Burke, Ace Atkins, David Sheffield, and others with a foreword by Morgan Freeman.
